Nightlife in Goa is enticing and people party out to enliven the evenings. A family on a night-out attending rave parties or cheering up over a peg of feni or gin is a daily routine in Goa. Disco is a genre of dance-oriented music that originated in African American, gay and Hispanic communities in 1970s.In what is considered a forerunner to disco style clubs in February 1970 New York City DJ David Mancuso opened The Loft, a members-only private dance club set in his own home. Most agree that the first disco songs were released in 1973, though some claim Manu Dibango's 1972 Soul Makossa to be the first disco record.

Musical influences include funk, soul music. The disco sound has soaring, often reverberated vocals over a steady four-on-the-floor beat, an eighth note (quaver) or sixteenth note (semi-quaver) hi-hat pattern with an open hi-hat on the off-beat, and a prominent, syncopated electric bass line. Strings, horns, electric pianos, and electric guitars create a lush background sound. Orchestral instruments such as the flute are often used for solo melodies, and unlike in rock, lead guitar is rarely used. Dance music is music composed specifically to facilitate or accompany dancing. It can be either a whole musical piece or part of a larger musical arrangement.

In terms of performance, the major categories are live dance music and recorded dance music. Dance music works often bear the name of the corresponding dance, e.g. waltzes, the tango, the bolero, the can-can, minuets, salsa, various kinds of jigs and the breakdown. Other dance forms include contradance, the merengue (Dominican Republic), and the cha-cha-cha. Often it is difficult to know whether the name of the music came first or the name of the dance. Goa is not only famous for blue waters of Arabian Sea or the sun soaked beaches but even the night life of Goa is sure a crowd puller.
