Southampton airport is a small size airport that is situated on the south coast next to the city of Southampton. From this airport passengers, whether business or tourist can reach 22 destinations direct, added to over 200 long haul flights from all over the world and connecting to six key hubs in other countries. The airport also has its own railway station that is connected to central London via fast trains running up to three times an hour.
There is only one terminal at the airport which makes the airport a small size compared to Gatwick or Heathrow in London. The terminal is split up into two sides with the check-in desks on the left hand side and the arrivals section on the other side. In the arrivals lounge there are facilities such as restaurants, cafes and car hire desks.
The destinations that are available to the Southampton airport passenger include the UK and Ireland as well as European flights to Mainland Europe Italy and Spain, Including Sardinia and Alicante.
The terminal at the airport is very well organised and there are plenty of facilities available. These include a wide variety of shops that sell newspapers and books as well as magazines. Snacks and small games are also available from these shops so there are products to suit all needs. For more extravagant people there are different shops that sell wines and spirits to passengers as well as perfumes and cosmetic goods.
Fashion accessories and electrical goods are also sold around the terminal allowing any passenger to find the right product or gift. Other facilities in the airport include a first aid room for any accidents or emergencies that may occur at the airport to passengers or staff. Also there are restaurants and cafes at the terminal near the arrivals section allowing any passengers that are peckish or thirsty to get refreshments, fresh sandwiches and pastries at all times.
There is also a conference and show stand in the middle of the terminal for businesses to hire out for either a half or full day to advertise their services or products. These might include a private sales company advertising the exotic cars that are on offer. Other services include car hire desks that are situated outside the airport allowing passengers to go straight from the airport and hire a car making onward journeys easy. Car hire companies have recorded great profits in recent years as many airports are expanding allowing more passengers to hire cars.
Southampton is no exception as there are plans to develop and expand the airport very soon. This is very good for the accompanying businesses as more passengers will be passing through the terminal and hence more trade will be evident. This expansion means that companies will undoubtedly be bidding for the contracts to host their services in the airport; as such a profit making enterprise, the trade contracts will certainly be hotly contested.
The transport links are very simple to the airport. The M27 motorway is connected to Southampton Airport through Junction 5 and it is a four mile journey to Southampton city centre and 20 miles from Portsmouth. The M3 motorway is also nine miles away allowing a fast journey to London and the surrounding area. The car park is situated only 60 metres from the terminal allowing easy and hassle free access to the terminal in quick time. A bus service also runs to the city centre arriving every half an hour allowing passengers to directly access Southampton.
As the expansion of this airport continues it will continue to improve its services offering companies the chance to make a healthy profit. As a large employer in the Southampton area, the expansion will only bring more jobs and further prosperity to the region.
