An academic paper or article published in a reputed international journal helps authors gain credibility in the research community. Writing a research or review article requires a lot of effort and commitment. After the author drafts a research-based manuscript, it is sent to the journal for publication. The editorial board accepts or rejects the manuscript based on the aim and scope of the journal. International journals receive thousands of submissions every day and authors should use manuscript submission as an opportunity. Understanding the journal’s needs and requirements is the best way to avoid rejection.
The editorial board reviews the manuscript and decides whether it is worth publishing or not. Field of study is one of the most important deciding factors used for manuscript review. The overall quality of a manuscript depends on how effectively the research is presented. Journals offer a list of formatting and submission protocols which is to be followed by every author. But in some cases, the research paper automatically gets rejected if the manuscript does not adhere to the guidelines and rules. New authors often make the mistake of sending the manuscript for review without inquiring about the scope and subject area of the journal.
In other cases, the manuscript is also rejected if it is written poorly. A professional manuscript should have a proper review of the literature, conclusion, reference, and citations. A research paper that is not structured would be rejected by the journal publishers.
Authors can prevent their research paper or thesis from getting rejected by keeping the following points in mind:
1. Brainstorming: Academic research editors are always looking for innovative and unique ideas that could benefit the research community. To write a good research paper, the author should choose the field of research and topic carefully. An author cannot draft a manuscript if they do not have a topic, and hence what matters is the ideation. Authors should be able to formulate a solid concept first. It would not only help them choose a methodology but will also help them structure their paper.
2. Originality: Authors should make sure that the subject and topic they have chosen for their research is relevant to the research community. To choose a topic, authors should conduct thorough research and gather evidence to support their work. Selecting a general or common topic can increase the chances of rejection. Even if the findings are valid, the entire paper might get rejected if the topic is too general. The research paper should have something unique or solid that could generate curiosity among the target audience.
3. Accurate data: While working on a manuscript, the authors should carefully choose the group for the study. For example, if the author has chosen the wrong group for study, then chances are high that the data and statistics used for data analysis would be wrong. The data presented in the manuscript should be valid and accurate. The data should be cross-checked to reduce the chances of technical flaws.
4. Proper citations: As a part of the review process, the manuscript submitted by the author is checked for plagiarism. Authors add references and citations to support and prove the validity of the research done by them. While doing it, authors are required to provide valid citations. Following the right citation style is extremely necessary. For example, if an author submits the research paper in MLA style, it would be rejected if the submission should be done in APA style.
5. Structure: Every manuscript has a proper structure where the components are placed in a systematic order. The components include:
 Abstract
 Brief Introduction
 Methodology
 Results
 Conclusion
 References and Citations
The authors should structure their manuscript in the right format that is provided by the academic journal publishers. Other than that, authors should also pay special attention to the heading and sub-heading sections as they provide a brief introduction to the content. The headings should be relevant and support the author’s argument.
6. Appropriate journal: The research paper should be relevant to the journal in terms of field of study and format. A journal would only accept a research article if it publishes articles. Authors can read the previously published articles and access the academic proofreading services to get an idea on the type of content published by the journal. It will help the authors understand the format, tone, and style of articles and research papers that are published in the journal.
