BMW was in no hurry to disclose information about all the representatives of the new flagship family of the 8th series. That was less than a year ago when the usual coupe was introduced. A few months later we were shown the same car, only in the back of a convertible, followed by a powerful M8. Now BMW introduces the four-door coupe Gran Coupe 2020 model year. It is reported that the production of the latter will be launched in July.

BMW lengthened the 2-door coupe 8 series by 22.86 cm - everything from the rear of the windshield, which has become more vertical, has a unique new design. The car is also 3.05 cm wider and 5.59 cm longer, the wheelbase has increased by 20.07 cm.

Buyers in the US can count on a 4.4-liter BMW twin-turbocharged V8 under the hood, which develops 523 horsepower (749 Nm) in the M850i xDrive version. BMW electronically limits the maximum speed to 209 km / h when using all-season tires. This figure can be increased to 241 km / h if you put regular tires. The engine will transmit power through an eight-speed Steptronic Sport gearbox to all four wheels.

The 8 Series Gran Coupe will also receive a 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder turbocharged engine that will develop 335 hp. (498 Nm). This engine works with rear and all-wheel drive - versions of the BMW 840i and 840i xDrive, respectively. BMW says the V8 Gran Coupe can accelerate to 100 km / h in 3.7 seconds, while the rear-wheel drive version does it in 4.9 seconds. AWD AWD version will accelerate 0.3 seconds faster.

Mercedes-Benz is also preparing another update for the crossover GLA

Today, a fresh batch of “spyware” snaps got into our mailbox, capturing the updated Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class in extremely sharp images. The presentation of the novelty is likely to take place next year.

Despite the presence of camouflage film, we see that the next GLA should be slightly larger overall, with a slightly higher ground clearance and a higher roofline. We do not expect the crossover to grow too much - the new GLB crossover should be the only seven-seater compact Mersey, but a little more outside space should be equal to a little more legroom for five passengers inside.

This prototype seems to have serial headlamps and taillights, although heavy camouflage still hides most of the design elements.

Under all this, the new GLA-class should have exactly the same front-wheel drive architecture, which is the basis for the current A-class hatchback and the GLB 7-seater crossover. Thus, power must come from a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine connected to an eight-speed automatic. The maximum power of this motor is equal to 221 hp As an option will be available four-wheel drive. A 1.3-liter turbocharged unit offered for initial configurations may also be available. According to rumors, in the future there will be an option from AMG with power up to 416 hp

By the way, there are rumors that the new GLA will debut at the end of this year in Frankfurt as a model for 2020, although it will most likely be shown at the beginning of next year, given the strong disguise on the observed prototype.
