High school is a great time for students to try extracurricular activities. Whether they think they will enjoy it or not, it can be extremely valuable for students of that age to experience a variety of activities that stretch and challenge them as they develop. Learning about the way you function and the things you enjoy are critical parts of high school.

One extracurricular activity in particular that teaches high schoolers excellent skills is the debate or speech team. One of the best ways for students to test out if they are interested in such an activity is by attending high school speech camps. The short-term commitment and immersion into the activity is a great way for students to learn and understand the idea behind the debate team without having to fully commit during the school year.

Here are a couple ways that high school debate camps can positively influence high schoolers.

1. Leadership

Oftentimes, high school debate camps are formed with a very low staff to student ratio, allowing students to get a lot of attention and guidance through the learning process. The close-knit atmosphere of such a small teacher to student ratio gives students a chance to step up in leadership and grow in their skills quickly and successfully. Teachers will be able to work alongside students and assist each of them personally throughout the duration of the camps.

2. Understand Debate

The chance to be taught in a small group setting also allows students that are new to debate to jump in and quickly learn the ropes. A small class setting also gives newer students the time and space they need to ask questions and really make sure they understand the content of what they are learning. This is an especially important skill for students who do not always speak up. A small class setting can give them the chance to speak up boldly and become comfortable with public speaking.

3. Find Interests

High school speech camps can provide students who are new to debate to find topics that they are especially interested in debating about. Through the opportunity to explore a variety of topics, students can try out as many things as they would like and solidify their knowledge and debating techniques.

High school speech camps can also be helpful ways for seasoned debaters to practice their skills and gain extra experience outside of the normal debate season.
Author Resource:- Weston Barnes is a writer and an avid reader. When he's not writing about business, marketing, high school speech camps or high school debate camps, he's immersed in his latest book. When Weston was little, he would have to sneak a book light into his room so he could read until the wee hours of the night.
